FAQ
Kitchen with The Electra Induction Stove cooking

Your burning questions,
answered.

General

How does it compare to a gas stove?
It’s more efficient. With gas stoves, most energy is wasted—only 20-40% of it even makes it to your food. Due to its game-changing efficiency, Electra’s stove puts up to 90% of its energy directly into your food.
Do I need new pans?
Your steel pans and cast iron pans will already work. If you have any doubts, you can check if a magnet sticks to the pan to make sure. Electra loves classic heavy-bottomed pans. Try it with cast iron for braising and lightning-hot sears on steaks—Electra makes cast iron sing.
What is the tax rebate and how do I apply?
Electra qualifies for several federal or local rebates as an energy-efficient electric appliance. After purchase, we’ll send you a rebate guide with everything you need to know—what you’re eligible for, how to apply, and where to find the right forms. It’s not the most glamorous part of the experience, but we try to make it painless (and worth the effort).
Does the stove connect to the internet?
Yes, when you install Electra you can connect your stove to the home network. This will enable the stove to charge when electricity is cheapest and install software updates automatically. It also means you’ll be able to monitor the stove and oven remotely via the Electra app. However, the whole system also works without WiFi - so connecting is totally up to you.
Is it safe?
Electra's Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are much safer than conventional lithium ion batteries—because they don’t experience thermal runaway at low temperatures. Our expert team (from MIT, NYU and Carnegie Mellon) also designed our system with multiple layers of added battery safety. Every component of Electra has been designed to comply with all relevant UL standards and other applicable compliance requirements.
How will my stove get fixed if something goes wrong?
We stand behind what we build. If something goes wrong, we’ll help make it right—whether that’s a part replacement, a repair, or in some cases, a full swap. Electra is designed to be serviceable, not disposable. Our support team is real, responsive, and ready to help.
What's the physical coil size on each burner?
Starting from the top right and going clockwise, Electra’s burners measure 10” (best-in-class), 6”, 7”, and 6”. The two larger burners deliver 1800W of power for high-heat searing, rapid boiling, and big-batch cooking. The smaller burners run at 900W—perfect for simmering sauces, melting chocolate, or keeping dishes warm without scorching.

Power

Is it limited in power because it uses a 120V plug?
Short answer: no. That's what makes Electra different. The battery charges from your standard 120V outlet between meals, then delivers power like you're cooking on 240V when you need it.
Will my outlet be able to handle Electra? (Nameplate ratings)
Electra plugs into a standard 120 volt, AC outlet and draws up to 15 amps for 1800 watts of power. That’s roughly the same as a microwave or space heater.

If your outlet is already busy, say you’ve got a toaster on the same circuit, you can use our “breaker saver” feature to lower Electra’s current draw to 10, 5 or even 2 amps. That way the stove plays nicely with the rest of your appliances and keeps your breaker from tripping.

Electra is designed with electrical flexibility in mind and built to work with the most common outlets. It ships with a standard 3-prong NEMA 15 plug, so for nearly everyone it’s plug-and-cook. If your stove has a 240v outlet behind it, an electrician or qualified installer can swap the cord for a 240-compatible plug or even hardwire the stove for permanent installs (like certain rebate programs in California).
How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
You don’t have to think about charging—Electra is always plugged in, and the battery intelligently charges to optimize clean, cheap energy and stay topped up. If it ever does run low (say, after an extended power outage), it takes about 3 hours to fully recharge—but you can still cook from mains during this time. For day-to-day use, the battery quietly takes care of itself in the background. No separate charging step, no special routine.
What happens when the battery runs out?
You won't need to worry about the battery for everyday cooking or special occasions—it intelligently manages itself. If the battery ever runs out the whole system still works on wall power alone. If the power’s out, a fully charged Electra can boil enough water for pasta for 48 people (or 78 cups of tea).
Do I need to replace the battery?
Our batteries are guaranteed for ten years. Even after fifteen years of use (6000 cycles), the system will still perform at ~80% of its original capacity. The battery is easily repairable—and not just by Electra. When it's time to replace the battery, it can be done by any qualified technician with no specialized tools.

Shipping & Installation

When and where will Electra ship?
We’re beginning deliveries in February 2026 and only shipping within the US for now. If you reserve now, we’ll keep you posted with all shipping updates.
How does shipping & install work?
Shipping is a flat $250 rate anywhere in the continental United States.

If you’re switching from a gas stove, have a qualified technician cap your gas line before your Electra stove arrives. If you’re switching from a 240v electric or induction range, have a qualified technician disconnect your range.

On install day, our 2-person crew will slide your existing stove out, and slide your new Electra induction stove in. Once Electra is plugged in and switched on, it’s ready to cook. We’ll take your old gas or electric stove, along with the packaging for your Electra stove, away to a recycling center.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel to use Electra?
No—Electra runs on a standard 120V outlet, which means no electricians, no permits, and no surprise costs. If your home can handle a coffee maker or a microwave, it can handle Electra. Just plug it in and go.
Can I install Electra in an off-grid property?
For sure—Electra doesn’t mind being off-grid, as long as it has a way to charge. If you’ve got solar, a generator, or shore power, you’re in good shape. As always, we recommend checking your power setup to make sure you’ll have enough juice for daily cooking—but Electra is game to live wherever you do.
